Lucky Luke set to return
FilmDeCulte.com has learned from a source within UGC that the French studio is currently developing a new adaptation of Lucky Luke, Morris' famous comic book gunslinger.
The character had previously been brought to the screen in the 1991 fiaso starring Terrence Hill and briefly in the UGC produced The Daltons in 2003.
This new project is being produced by Yves Marmion and French comedy actor Jean Dujardin is currently attached to the movie, though a contract has yet to be signed. Dujardin starred in the Gallic blockbusters Brice de Nice and OSS 117, and is now attached to a string of new films.
The script is titled The Secret of Lucky Luke ("Le Secret de Lucky Luke) and is being written by the Alexandre Charlot/Franck Magnier team, whose script for a third Asterix movie is now in production.
The movie's pitch revolves around Lucky Luke's "secret", i.e. he can't kill in order to enforce the law. This weakness is thus used against him by his lifelong enemies Jesse James, Billy the Kid and Calamity Jane, who stage one of their deaths at the hands of Lucky Luke in order to bring him down.
The script is now at its second draft. No start date has been chosen yet, but a 20M€ budget is in the works.
Calls to Yves Marmion's office seeking comment have not been returned.
